Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) is an organic compound with a molecular formula of C15H24O. It is a white crystalline powder that is easily soluble in ethanol, acetone, benzene, soybean oil, cottonseed oil, and lard, but insoluble in water, glycerol, and propylene glycol. BHT has been used for nearly 70 years and is the most widely produced phenolic antioxidant (known as an antioxidant in the rubber industry). Used for organic synthesis, as an antioxidant for rubber, plastic, gasoline, transformer oil, turbine oil, animal and vegetable oil, food, etc.
