Physical and chemical properties

Lithium carbonate (Li₂ CO) is a white crystalline powder with a density of 2.11g/cm³ and a melting point of 618 ℃. It is stable in air and has no deliquescence. Its solubility decreases with the increase of temperature (13g/L at 20 ℃), slightly soluble in ethanol, easy to react with acid to generate salts, and strong thermal decomposition of lithium oxide and carbon dioxide. Exposure to air will absorb CO₂ to produce lithium bicarbonate, which can be used for impurity purification.

Grading standards and purity requirements

Industrial grade: purity ≥ 98%, used for ceramic and glass additives;

Battery grade: purity ≥ 99.5%, magnetic impurity ≤ 0.0003%, used for lithium battery cathode material;

High purity grade: Purity ≥ 99.99%, used in semiconductors and optical devices.

Security Risk and Management

Health hazards: nausea and tremor caused by accidental ingestion, and poisoning caused by high dose (blood lithium concentration> 1.5mmol/L);

Storage specifications: sealed and dark storage, relative humidity <60%, prohibit mixed storage with acids;

Transportation identification: It is managed according to Class 8 corrosive substances, and a "corrosive" label is required.
